z/OS-z/VM Systems Programmer - Fast Tack Into Management

Are you interested in moving into management soon but stuck in a dead end job? An Ohio-based mainframe shop seeks a mainframe systems programmer who they can groom to succeed a soon-to-be retiring Technical Support Manager. This person will initially support a z/OS, z/VM, and Linux environment, including all the associated subsystems and OEM products. The minimum requirement for this position is experience installing and maintaining z/OS and z/VM (SMP/E required) with a desire and aptitude to move into a management role. Strong leadership and communication skills are a must. Previous supervisory or project management experience is highly desirable. A background in CICS, WebSphere MQ, storage administration, VTAM, TCP/IP, or distributed/midrange systems are also pluses. z/VM-z/Linux 1099 Contract - Mid-Atlantic Region

An immediate need exists for an experienced consultant to support a proof of concept for IBM's zPDT software, which enables mainframe development on x86 platforms. Additional future support work may include a major z/VM-z/Linux implementation project. Scope of work includes: gathering technical details from client SMEs on the z/OS, z/VM, z/Linux, and USS environments and production workloads; performing analysis of SMF and OMEGAMON data; providing analysis and recommendations for improving measurement methods and/or tools; and making recommendations for improving productivity and reducing problems in the environment. Qualified candidates will have experience troubleshooting complex issues as well as installation of z/OS, z/VM, and/or z/Linux operating systems and associated software. Prior zPDT experience is a definite plus. Essential professional skills include excellent oral and written communication skills; strong time management skills; and the ability to work in a collaborative environment with a motivated team. This is a 1099 corp-to-corp contract with duration of approximately nine months with possible extensions. Competitive hourly rate. All candidates must be able to pass a basic Public Trust Clearance background check.
